Transitional Program

THE KING’S SCHOOL TRANSITIONAL PROGRAM

Creating an Environment for Newcomer Students to  Achieve Success.”

In 2007 The King’s School pioneered a Transitional Program for the children of newcomers living in Winnipeg’s core area.  These satellite K-6 classrooms are multi age, and the program tailored specifically to meet the diverse needs of those from war affected countries, whose mother tongue is not English.  Some may never have been to school or only had opportunity for a little learning in refugee camps, while for others their education has been interrupted due to civil unrest.  This successful program targets language, academic, and social-emotional needs. In a safe and re-assuring atmosphere literacy, math and other disciplines and skills are taught in a concentrated way.  Testing and assessing every student regularly results in meeting the needs of each one through differentiated instruction.   The intention of this EAL program (English as an Additional Language) is to transition students successfully to main stream classes at the school of parents’ choice.

Every day begins with worship and prayer – both of which may be in a variety of languages.  Each year God’s networking across the city brings committed volunteers from various churches to give of their time and energy each week.  Prayer partners also play a key role as their thanksgiving and intercession – fuelled from regular updates – move forward the purposes of God in this unique setting.

The King’s School mission statement is as follows:

Spreading a passion for the glory of God through Jesus Christ

to every nation and every generation.

God Himself is bringing the nations to our city and our school: ours is the privilege to receive and love them, teach them and pray for them.  God’s heart of love and justice for widows and orphans, the marginalized and displaced remains unchanged, and through The King’s School Transitional Program we give Him glory for the healing and wholeness, breakthroughs and achievements which He regularly accomplishes.
